Opening Prayer:
Thank You for creating this moment for me to spend time with You. In Jesus name, I pray, may it not be wasted, O God. Please help me to hear from You. Let Your words pierce through me, through every part of my heart. Remove all that is not of You, and leave nothing behind but You. Draw me in. Open my heart to receive You fully. And may I hear You clearly, without confusion, in Jesus name. Amen.
The Bridegroom and the Fast
Scripture: “And Jesus said to them, Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.”
Matthew 9 verse 15 NKJV
Devotion:
When Jesus walked the earth, He referred to Himself as the Bridegroom. His presence among the disciples was reason enough for celebration. But He made it clear that a time would come when He would be taken away. And when that time came, His followers would fast. They would mourn. They would prepare.
Prayer:
Jesus, awaken in me the longing of the Bride. Teach me to fast and prepare with love. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
His absence in body is an invitation to prepare our hearts for His return.
To-Do:
Sit with Jesus for five minutes in silence. Write one way you will fast or simplify this week as an act of longing for the Bridegroom.
Preparation in the Book of Acts
Scripture: “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.”
Acts 13 : 2 - 3 NKJV
Devotion:
In the Book of Acts, we see exactly that. The Bridegroom had returned to the Father, and now the Bride was beginning her preparation. The early Church fasted and prayed. They sought the Lord deeply. They ministered to Him. They listened for His Spirit. They appointed leaders, built the Church, and carried the gospel forward with power. This was not passive waiting. It was active preparation.
They were doing what Jesus had spoken. They were fasting. They were laboring. They were making themselves ready.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, teach me to minister to the Lord. Let my preparation be active and obedient. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
Real preparation looks like fasting, prayer, and Spirit led obedience.
To-Do:
Read Acts 13 verses 2 to 3 again. For five minutes simply tell the Lord you love Him and wait in silence before Him.
The Bride Makes Herself Ready
Scripture: “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”
Revelation 19 verse 7 NKJV
Devotion:
Just like a bride who prepares for her wedding day, the Church began to make herself ready for the return of Christ. And that is where we come in today. We are still in that season of preparation. Jesus has not returned yet, but He will. And we are called to live like His Bride. Set apart. Watching. Waiting. Preparing.
Prayer:
Father, set me apart. Make me watchful and ready. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
Readiness is a daily posture, not a single moment.
To-Do:
Write three ways you will live set apart this week. Sit with God for five minutes and ask Him which one to begin today.
How We Prepare
Scripture: “Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months’ preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women. Thus prepared, each young woman went to the king, and she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the women’s quarters to the king’s palace.”
Esther 2 verses 12 to 13 NKJV
Devotion:
Think about the story of Esther. Before she ever met the king, she went through a season of cleansing and preparation. She did not rush into His presence. She made herself ready. That is what it means to be married to Jesus. It is not a title. It is a life.
Being married to Jesus means you wake up with Him in your mind. You check in with Him throughout the day. You speak to Him before you sleep. You do not go days without prayer. You do not treat His presence like an afterthought. You talk to Him. You worship. You obey. You live in intimacy.
Prayer:
Lord, cleanse me and teach me the rhythm of daily intimacy. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
Preparation is cleansing.
Preparation is devotion.
Preparation is obedience that keeps us near.
To-Do:
Plan one simple act of worship today. A psalm aloud, a song, or a short prayer walk. End with five minutes of silent adoration.
The Picture of Marriage
Scripture: “O God, You are my God. Early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for You. My flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.”
Psalm 63 verse 1 NKJV
Devotion:
She checks in with him throughout the day, asks how he is doing, plans with him, supports him, and honors him. Her heart and his heart are intertwined. There is a desire to talk, to share, to love, and to stay close. That same picture is what Jesus desires with us. We are not just servants. We are His Bride.
Think about a natural marriage. A wife who truly loves her husband does not go days without speaking to him on purpose. When all is well in the relationship, there is daily communication. He is not far. He is near. But just like in any marriage, intimacy must be cultivated. It takes time. It takes priority. It takes love. That is how we prepare. That is how we stay ready.
Prayer:
Jesus, become my first thought in the morning and my last thought at night. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
Daily seeking keeps love warm and nearness real.
To-Do:
Schedule three small check-ins with Jesus today. Morning, midday, and night. Close each check in with five quiet minutes.
Stay Ready
Scripture: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself. That where I am, there you may be also.”
John 14 verse 3 NKJV
HERE'S A CHALLENGE
Set a timer every three hours and take just five minutes to pray, worship, read your Bible, or simply talk to Jesus. Do this daily and watch your relationship with Him grow. When you wake up, talk to God first. Make Him your first thought, your first conversation. Watch how your heart begins to shift. Watch how peace increases. Watch how His voice becomes clearer.
Declaration:
I will not fail. I will seek the Lord early in the morning. I will honor Him with my time and my heart. I will not live distracted. I will not grow cold. I will be a faithful and perfect Bride to my Lord. I will live every day preparing for His return. I belong to Jesus, and I will stay ready. In Jesus name. Amen.
Prayer:
In Jesus name, please Lord help me to stay in life union with You. Help me to seek You early in the morning. Help me to live my life intertwined with You. I know You are not far, but I do not want to just know it. I want to feel You close to me at all times. Open my ears to hear Your soft voice. Give me access to You, Lord Jesus. In Jesus name, Amen.
Takeaway:
Cultivated intimacy keeps the Bride ready for the Bridegroom.
To-Do:
Do the challenge today. Set a repeating reminder every three hours and give Jesus five focused minutes each time.
